Mkt Concept Is A Lincoln Reality

Fans of the Lincoln automotive brand have reason to be happy as parent Ford Motor Company seems committed to rejuvenating the once august luxury make. In recent years Lincoln has left the luxury car fold selling nearluxury versions of various Ford and Mercury brand vehicles.

Lincoln Sales Increase For 2007

In 2007 Lincoln sales rose by 9 bucking a decade long slide that saw rival Cadillac outsell Lincoln by more than 2 to 1. At one time the brands were fighting tooth and nail for American luxury leadership a position Lincoln began to surrender in the 1990s.

Like other people who follow automotive trends Ive been a critic of Ford for neglecting Lincoln letting the brand slide and losing customers to Lexus Cadillac BMW and Mercedes to name a few.

Enter the MKS

Killing off the Continental seemed to fuel Lincolns downward spiral as was neglecting the Town Car and failing to make the midsize LS a true worldclass luxury car while pouring money into shoring up Jaguar and Land Rover. With Jaguar and LandRover slated to sell to Tata Motors this Spring new cars such as the MKS sedan demonstrates that Ford is serious about Lincoln. The MKS will debut this summer and will become the brands flagship sedan though the Town Car will continue to be produced for the limo fleet.

What Is The MKT?

The MKT is a large crossover vehicle that made its concept debut at this years Detroit Auto Show NAIAS. I happened to be in the Motor City attending the show and got a glimpse of the car. Other than what I find to be a hideous grille the MKT represents a bold direction for Lincoln a vehicle which could keep buyers from leaving Lincolns showroom.

The concept MKT was a two row crossover but The Detroit News is reporting that a third row will be added to position the Lincoln against similar vehicles from Infiniti and BMW.

What About Mercury?

The MKT and MKS could revive the Lincoln brand though I personally detest the nomenclature used to identify each model I cannot remember that the MKZ is the Fusionbased sedan though the MKX is the current crossover in the fleet. Dont ask me to name the Lincoln truck!

As far as branding goes Ford needs to do something with Mercury an automotive make that is probably much more damaged than Lincoln. Mercury desperately needs its own identity as the current line up features nothing but rebadged Fords. Young buyer who are the future consumers automotive manufacturers need to reach have no reason to consider Mercury right now.

At least one defining model would help bolster Mercurys image but with Ford concentrating on Lincoln dont wait around for similar help for Mercury.

Looking For Car Shipping Company? Consider This!

If you have by now decided to choose a car shipping company then it is important to consider an extensive array of factors. The very important part here is that you must know what to look for so that you would end up with an car transport company which you could feel comfortable and safe handing over your vehicle to. Consider the following:

First thing you must find out is that if the company offers insurance and the complete details of that policy? Most company would provide this but coverage might vastly vary from one company to other. Before agreeing on it also ask for the copy of insurance policy. You car/auto needs to be against damage or theft by car shipping company. Check on the damage deductible and have it all in writing. Do not forget to talk to your personal insurance company as they may offer additional car insurance too.

It is mostly better to opt for enclosed transport option so determine if your chosen company provides good enclosed car transport facility. As it allows you to get your car shipped by full protected against elements. Truly this might be the most excellent option for highvalue cars too.

Next is very important to check for the companys reputation and year experience in the field. You could actually get some such related information by search online or by state incorporation records and also be online customer reviews. It is also better to ask your friends and family people if they carry any personal references.

Now check if the company provides guaranteed delivery dates. This is of course important; as if they do not then for sure they will take huge time to deliver your car. Through this you can desire to know when to expect the car landing at your place. Here you need to pick up the most excellent value based on how well your company meets formerly mentioned factors and price of their service mutually.

Remember that many car and auto transport companies might dishearten or prohibit you from leaving your personal articles in the vehicle. Any of your personal articles left in the auto are not insured your home insurance policy might cover these articles but you must check with your home insurance agent well in advance. Lastly ask if the insurance covers time which your vehicle is sitting in a set between transports and inquire if after factory accessories like spoilers alarm and radios systems are also covered. Your car transport company might or might not cover damage.

Land Rover Discovery. The Tame Side Of Defender

The Land Rover Discovery has been available in Australia since the early nineties and has proven a popular choice judging by their numbers on Australian roads. Since its introduction the Land Rover Discovery mostly retained its original stylin until of course the recently released 2005 model.

If you are looking for a four wheel drive with a pedigree name then the Discovery with its Land Rover badge certainly fits the bill. It is a good performer off road although not quite as good as the more rugged Land Rover Defender. But with its two range transfer case and low torque it will perform more than adequately for the average off road enthusiast. The Land Rover Discovery also has good wheel travel and ground clearance and the underneath of the car is fairly well protected from anything that the off road track can fling up at it. For driving through those creek and river crossings the Discovery also has very good approach and departure angles

On the highway the Land Rover Discovery offers a smooth ride but don’t expect sporty acceleration. Even the V8 petrol engine is fairly unremarkable in its acceleration thanks to the enormous weight of the vehicle. For this reason the turbo diesel is generally a much better bet because it offers similar performance but will cost you a lot less in fuel than the thirsty V8 petrol engine.

Inside the cabin some will find the feel a little disappointing especially taller drivers. Some of the controls are in hard to reach places and the height of the seat base means that some taller drivers may find it a little awkward and uncomfortable with their heads almost touching the roof.

Another problem that seems to afflict the Land Rover Discovery is that of reliability. The turbo diesel for example has somewhat of a reputation for snapping timing belts and cracking crankshafts. Turbochargers and starter engines have also provided problems for some Discovery owners. Other mechanical problems have included electrical faults and all manner of gearbox problems.

Tips for buying a one owner Land Rover Discovery
If you’re in the market for a good one owner Land Rover Discovery then make sure that you check for the following:
Rust and ill fitting doors in the earlier models.
Check the lower body for signs of water entry.
Check that the engine starts quickly and doesn’t blow too much smoke.
Check underneath for any damage from serious off road action.
Check that the suspension has not been damaged and is in good working condition.
Go for a late model Discovery 1999 or later if your budget allows.
Get a professional inspection from a Land Rover expert as the Discovery has a reputation for mechanical problems.
